For the first time in 30 years, personal auto insurance in Massachusetts has entered into a new competitive auto insurance system. That means more choices, more opportunities to save…and maybe a little more confusion.
This is why, now more than ever, it's good to call Amica. Because we'll always take the time to understand your needs and explain all your options. Together, we'll find the coverage that's just right for you.
What's changed?
On April 1, 2008, auto insurers began to set their own rates. This system is known as "managed competition." The basic auto policy in Massachusetts is the same, with minimum coverages that are mandated by Massachusetts law. But now insurance companies can also offer a variety of coverages, limits, and deductibles that were previously not available.
How is this different?
For the last 30 years, all rates for car insurance in Massachusetts were set by the Commissioner of Insurance. If you asked for a quote for the same coverage from different companies, you would get only minor price variations.
What does this mean to Massachusetts drivers?
You'll have more choices and more opportunities to save. Amica has long been a proponent of this change. We think it offers great opportunities for consumers in Massachusetts.
What will Amica do now that things have changed?
As you'll see when you call, we'll take the time to explain the new choices and options that are available.
We have already filed new, discounted rates with the Massachusetts Division of Insurance. Under the provisions of Amica's rate filing, Massachusetts drivers insured with Amica will average a rate reduction of 7.9 percent over their already-discounted rates, with many experiencing a rate decrease in excess of 10 percent.
